Today we welcome back Allie S. to the blog to share a yarn monogram workshop she recently hosted with a few creative Hallmarkers. Each participant created her own personal version of the monogram and the results are total eye candy! Read on and learn how to make your own inspired piece!
Monograms are a great way to add a personal touch to your home décor so I decided to gather some Hallmarkers to create our own versions! The only parameters were to create a monogram while incorporating yarn. These pieces could be hung on your front door, placed on your mantle, or hung in a kid’s room. Take a peek at our process:
Most people began the workshop with the letterform. While some decided to laser cut their own letter, others purchased a premade one. Another great item to start with is a metal hoop. You can hang your letter in the center of the hoop and embellish with yarn, or even create your letterform by wrapping yarn around the hoop.
I also love the idea of incorporating your monogram into a banner or pennant. A simple hand-painted initial can have a big impact! Some choose to simply accent their pieces with yarn tassels, rather than create their letterform with yarn. A few people also chose to use yarn to embellish felt and paper flowers. This added a nice layer of texture to their pieces.
Other popular techniques included wrapping letterforms with yarn, ribbons, or embroidery floss and weaving yarn through holes.
One of my favorite parts of this workshop was the variety of styles and looks we created! Everyone brought her own take on creating a yarn monogram that suited her personality or home. I hope you gained some inspiration to create a yarn monogram for yourself! We would love to see what you create.
