Three simple ways to elevate your party

Hallmark designer Laura L. shines when it comes to all things crafty and DIY. Some of her recent creations include painted wood bead necklaces and an adorable nursery for her daughter. Today she’s sharing a few simple tips to help you elevate any party.

I love entertaining, whether it’s a casual dinner party or a full-on celebration like a bridal or baby shower. Life is meant to be celebrated! I’m here to show you three easy ways to elevate any soiree without adding a lot of stress.

Tip #1: Personalize those drinks. One way to make guests feel special is to personalize your guests’ drink glasses. To show you how, I started with gift trims from Bows & Bits, a Hallmark Gift Presentation collection. These are really cute, but of course you can use whatever bling your heart desires.

For the guest of honor, I tied two tassels, a pom pom, and a nametag onto some metallic elastic cord.

Each of the other glasses also got a nametag—to put an end to the ongoing “Is this my drink?” debate.

(On a side note, I encourage everyone to use glassware at parties whenever possible. Years ago I stocked up on a couple dozen jam jars and I always use them for drinks. They’re so much more fun than plastic cups.)

Look how cute all those glasses are together. Lined up like a little army of shower sweetness!

Tip #2: Make Your Food Festive. Next, here’s a simple way to make food feel festive without much effort. I attached pom poms to wood skewers and topped them with gold fringe.

(Again, I used one of the wrapping paper patterns from the Bows & Bits.)

I used these particular embellishments to accessorize cups of popcorn, but they could also hold together a sandwich or a fruit kabob!

Tip #3: Dress up your dishes. I always keep several cake plates around because they’re so versatile. One simple way to dress them up for a party is to add a fringed paper border.

Using fringe scissors and giftwrap from Bows & Bits, I cut a strip of wrapping paper, added fringe using the scissors, and taped it to the edge of the cake plate. Voila!

The best thing about these ideas is that they’re inexpensive. Just paper, yarn, and some simple craft supplies and you’re ready to party!
