Road Trip Clipboards

This summer, Hallmark designer Allie S. has some fun summer road trips planned with her family. She is preparing to make the long rides more enjoyable by gathering a few things together (including free printables) to create entertainment along those winding roads.

When I was growing up, my family would often take summer road trips (think Kansas City to Yellowstone). My sister and I always loved playing games and doodling during the many hours in the car…and that inspired me to gather up the perfect pieces to help you create a road trip clipboard for your kids! This is something I would have loved to take along on one my childhood trips.

The first step is to gather all the items for your kit. I choose to include coloring book pages, stickers, and colored pencils/markers. I even created printables for road games—one for keeping track of all the license plates you see, and one for playing Dots And Boxes!

You will also need supplies to decorate the clipboard. First, I spray-painted a pink stripe at the bottom of my board (use masking tape to cover the top). Next, I used washi tape to cover the clip and create a matching pencil. Finally, I attached pom-poms for an extra touch of fun!

I also had a few friends at Hallmark decorate their own clipboards. There is no right or wrong way to embellish your board! For an extra activity during your trip, your kids can decorate their clipboards with stickers, attachments, or their own doodles.
