When creative moms are looking for super-stylish inspiration for nursery decor, kids parties, and other family celebrations, 100 Layer Cake-let is a must-read. We were collectively and completely smitten with their Mother’s Day greeting card design collaboration with Hallmark Signature, so we chatted with them about this latest project together.
What was your inspiration for the collection?
To begin with, we were inspired by the festive events and parties we share on our blogs every day. And of course we always take bits of inspiration from fashion and decor and color trends, too.
How would you describe this collection in five words?
Fun, whimsical, feminine, modern, pretty.
Do you have a favorite card? Which one?
We love the “Happy Mom’s Day” garland card so much. The little gold bits relate so perfectly to the foil details in the envelope liner, and the festive vibe is perfect for a modern mom.
Where did the idea of forming 100 Layer Cake-let come from?
100 Layer Cakelet was such a natural extension of our wedding blog. It was as simple as wanting to continue the thought and care that goes into planning a wedding into family celebrations.
Tell us a little bit about it.
We wanted to stay relevant to our readers after they are married as they move into the next phase of life, which for many of them is motherhood! We feature everything from maternity photos, newborn photos, nursery decor, and kids parties, to profiles of inspiring moms, bar and bat mitzvahs, baby products, kids fashion…really anything that relates to family life.
You feature a lot of moms and families on your blog. What’s your favorite thing about these family photos?
We love getting little peeks into the ways that different women are inspired by their family life.
Any moms who have been an inspiration to you—real, fictional, TV characters, or otherwise?
We’re always inspired by the moms that we know personally. Every woman has a different way of approaching motherhood—different strengths, different struggles, different inspirations. We learn so much from women we know.
Any mom or baby trends you’re loving right now?
We love that baby and kid stuff doesn’t have to feel specifically “kid” anymore. For example, a baby’s room can be a thoughtfully designed room in your home, without feeling overtly thematic or baby.
What’s your work space like?
Light, bright, simple…we have big blush wall, which makes us happy.
Is there anything unique about your working process?
Since there are three of us there’s always a collaborative feeling in our process. We each have different styles and different tastes, and it’s always nice to have immediate feedback on projects from your partners.
