Today we’re sharing crafting maven Brittany Jepson’s 2016 Hallmark Signature holiday collaboration. Her blog The House that Lars Built is a must-visit source for creative inspiration. What inspired your collection?
Paper is my medium of choice, and I wanted to do something fun and bright and cheery—yet still unique—for Christmas. I cut everything out of paper and then collaged it all together. There’s a nod to Northern European folk design in the sweater, which I modeled after a sweater that I bought in Iceland a number of years ago.
How would you describe your collection?
It’s a series of ornaments attached to Christmas cards. If you’re sending a card during the holidays, I thought it would be fun to gift an ornament, too, so that’s what I created! I think one of these would be perfect for a friend.
Do you have a favorite card from your collection?
My favorite card from the collection is the mistletoe. I love its simplicity, and it’s a perfect addition to a doorway or ceiling. It’s supposed to encourage some snuggling during the holidays 😉
What was your process like to create these four cards?
First, I sketched out a ton of ideas, and then I narrowed it down. Next, I took out my paper collection and got cutting. (That was the fun part!) Finally, I scanned everything and adjusted some details in Photoshop.
What are your favorite holiday colors and patterns?
I’m a fan of colors and patterns that don’t typically scream holiday. Give me a pink and red combo with a touch of gold!
Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?
I love going to my parent’s house in Southern California for the holidays. There’s nothing like playing tennis on Christmas!
What are you most looking forward to doing this holiday?
This holiday season I’m on a big deadline. It’s been in the works for a number of months, and it’s due just after the holidays, so I’ll be plugging away at it. I hope we can take some time to go see lights. I also LOVE decorating for the holidays and making my own décor, so I’m sure that will be a part of it.

The House That Lars Built is a craft/design blog that shows people how to create an artful life. I believe that life is fuller when we’re thoughtful about what we make and add to our homes, and that’s what I try to teach people to do.
