A Halloween cocktail to wake the dead

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year for cocktails. Just the names of the drinks get me excited: Death Bed, Death in the Afternoon, Zombie, Red Devil, Witch’s Kiss…and then there is the Corpse Reviver No. 2.

The 1930 edition of the Savoy Cocktail Book gives its readers a warning about this drink: “Four of these taken in swift succession will unrevive the corpse.” It is easy to see why such advice is needed for this libation. Its taste is herbaceous and mysterious. Its luminous yellow hue gives an air of otherworldly properties.

Can it revive a corpse? I guess you’ll have to see for yourself…

  • .75 oz of Plymouth Gin
  • .75 oz of Mathilde Orange X.O. Liqueur
  • .75 oz of Lillet Blanc
  • .75 oz of Fresh Lemon Juice

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled champagne coupe rinsed with St. George Absinthe. No garnish needed.
