When it comes to the holiday season, we think of family, food, and decor. And not always in that order. Today Hallmark Home & Gifts Design Product Development Director Annie B. is here with a chic DIY light branch that will carry you from Halloween through the New Year. Read on to find out how easy it is to add a little sparkle to your holiday home decor!
DIY Light Branch
First, gather branches and remove all leaves and broken sprigs. Collect branches regardless of size or shape. You may be surprised by what you find useful!
Next, choose where you will put your piece. Is it going to hang over a coffee table? Your kitchen table? Does it line your mantle, or dress the middle of your dining table? This will dictate the size and shape of the branches used.
Prune & layer to fit your space. Place your branches where they will lay or hang and cut them to fit that space. Try layering different branches on top of each other to create a full look.
PAINT! Spray paint your branches in a well-ventilated area. Remember to allow dry time between layers of paint.
Decide what effect you’re going for and select your lights. There are many options to choose from! Bulb lights…fairy lights…colored bulbs…wire string lights. For a high impact look from above, consider larger bulb lights. If you want a bit of subtle sparkle, consider tiny string lights like our warm white lights on a copper wire. Feel free to get creative and try different combinations with the branches. Remember to take into account your power source. Can you use and outlet or do you need to use a battery pack?
Place your piece. If you are using a battery pack, take a thin gauge wire to secure the battery pack to the branch. If you are hanging the branches use several pieces of wire to secure the branches to one “O” ring to hang from.
