An afternoon crafting love letters with Hallmark artists

You got to know Ashley G. in last month’s Artist Spotlight, and now she’s back gushing over February’s most love-able holiday. As an art director at Union Hill Studios, Ashley collaborates and creates on the daily. Today, she’s sharing a workshop with us that’s filled with love and paper hearts in the form of love letters.

Seems like you can always find someone who suspects Hallmark is making up holidays. While we’d be happy to get credit for a day all about love, Valentine’s Day was around long before we started making cards for it. But you can be sure we’d never let one of the craftiest of holidays pass us by!

Valentine’s Day is a total DIYer’s dream. It’s an occasion wrapped around the sweetest of sentiments and one that’s filled with hearts, paper crafts and, of course, chocolate. What better time to bust out that red paper and pink washi tape than now?

We invited a few Hallmark artists together to do just that. We filled the table with all sorts of fun — paint, stickers, markers, scraps of paper, scissors, and pens — and let our crafters, illustrators, and lettering artists get to work. The energy was electric and the chocolate and heart shaped donuts were a-plenty. The end results of putting all this together were sweet! As you can see, love truly is in the details.
